Endorsed by the Aesthetics and Anti-Aging Society of SA (AAMSSA), the Aesthetic Medicine Congress of South Africa (AMCSA) is one of the most important meetings on South Africa’s aesthetic medical calendar.
The 14th AMCSA held at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria on June 27 – 29 2019, was a working congress for me. Being part of the scientific committee meant I was involved in ensuring that the standard of scientific education was up to date and relevant to the fast- paced field of medical aesthetics. I also presented talks, helped chair some of the scientific sessions and attended the AAMSSA AGM.
I spoke about the South African Association of Health and Skincare Professionals (SAAHSP) and AAMSSA collaboration on establishing the scope of practice standards for beauty therapists and somatologists working with aesthetic doctors. I also ontributed to the ethics session. My prersentation was entitled “The 7 Neglected C’s of Medical Ethics” and covered the importance of confidentiality, consent, competence, communication, cultural sensitivity, choice and compassion – all things I am passionate about!
The congress was relevant, of high quality and scientific. As always, it was great to catch up with colleagues and friends.
